Final push for voters

(CNS): Officials from the Elections Office are making a final push for all Caymanians who are qualified to visit them today or Friday. The office will be closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, which means anyone who has not registered to vote will not be entitled to vote in the May 2013 general election if they don’t make it to the office today, tomorrow or next Wednesday, the final day for registration. With high hopes for s surge in voters at the 2013 national poll, officials from the Elections Office urged everyone to come and register right now.
The voters' register now contains well over 16,000 voters and officials are hoping to reach at least 18,000 but there may be as many as several thousand more people who are entitled to vote but who are choosing to stay outside the democratic process. Officials are keen to ensure that anyone who wants to register seizes the opportunity to do so.
All those who have Caymanian Status but have not been naturalized can still register to vote. Naturalization is no longer a prerequisite to qualify.
“Time is running out,” the office said Thursday. The final date for registration is 2 January 2013. Registering Officers will be available until midnight on that date and the Elections Office will have a registration station downstairs in the lobby of the Smith Road Centre (150 Smith Road) also open until midnight.
Meanwhile, the registering officer for Cayman Brac and Little Cayman will be at Brac Executive Services from 9:00am to midnight on 2 January 2013.
The Grand Cayman office has a registration station downstairs in the lobby of the Smith Road Centre which will be open on Saturday 29th December between 10:00am and 4:00pm.
For those electors who have changed their names, occupations or street addresses since being registered this is also the final opportunity to complete a Form 13 to update their particulars. Those who have changed districts must also ensure that they are registered in the correct electoral district.

Whats with our public service system, got to make life so hard. One would think by now, the Immigration that registers PR, status grants and the general registry would link their data base
and forward all eligible citezens that reach the age of voting, to the voters registration office. a 10 year old would figure this out by now.... which he would then attach one's photo to the card and mail it to each recipiant. stop wasting time and money on this midevil system...Cayman.

Polling the readership of CNS rather than going to the Cayman Elections Website with all the answers, demonstrates a level of problem solving ability sufficiently Caymanian to qualify you for voting. Pity you cannot also run for office.
You need to take a copy of
You need to take a copy of the Constitution, the Elections Law and the Immigration Law. Now cut them up into little pieces and put those pieces in a bag. Then get someone of true-blood, ideally a self-professed "son of the soil" and even better one who readily tells everyone how many generations their family has been in Cayman. Get this person to pull a dozen or so bits of paper out the bag (the extra fingers help for this task). Once you have enough letters, let the local divine from the letters whether you are allowed to vote or not. It probably makes more sense and is less capricious than the real system of working it out.

1. UDP are washed up, the 5 who are in Govt now waited too long and benefited from Macs foolishness, we are done with them. The remaining 4 UDP ....well just forget them, too much to type right now. But Mark and Jon have done nothing for BT except move the dump there, UDP in town are dead, and UDP in WB are even more dead. Bottom line anyone associated with the UDP now or in the past 4 years is a goner.
2. C4C blew it! They launched on a dream, pretended to be something they were not, failed to ignite the anti-party fires and now they cannot even get solid candidates. XXXX C4C needs to stick to the plan and stop misleading the people.
Roy is a nice guy, but he is way out of touch with the people and doesn’t understand the hurt we feel and what it means to be poor, we cant rely on him to do anything else than look out for his big business friends. He does not live among us and he is not going to represent us.
Honestly, the best choice for us is the PPM. They have brought in new candidates with good solid backgrounds, who were raised among us, who are younger and more energetic and fiercely loyal. I had the pleasure of meeting them this Christmas and I can tell you these guys are the best choice for these islands. I was leaning to C4C but in the final analysis, no way, they simply are here to represent the big businesses not the small people.
So in summary

PPM - Grassroots, educated, hard-working, ready to take charge, born leaders, and truly doing it for Love of Country...
