Jamaican Students Selling Books

Today a young Jamaican girl visited our offices to try to sell us books to help pay for her school tuition in Jamaica.  She said she attends the Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica and she will be in Cayman until the end of August selling books for the Cayman Islands Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist.  She arrived with a medium sized, blue carry on bag full of books.  Book titles ranged from heath/nutrition to kids religious books.  She told us that she receives a small portion of the sales but she must first buy the books and then sell them for the profit.

There are many questions and concerns regarding this act.   Apparently, this is not the first time students from Jamaica have come to Cayman to sell products during summer holidays.

1) Was the young lady or the Seventh Day Adventists given permission to sell books at retail prices to the public?

2) Was her passport stamped by immigration as a visitor who then is allowed to sell books under the false pretenses of religion?

3) Isn't this illegal in Cayman?

4) Who ultimately benefits from the sale proceeds? The Student or Seventh Day Adventist?
