Suggestions for the Premier

Let's see if we can use this thread to create positive and constructive suggestions for the Premier.  I can't guarantee that he'll listen and I can only hope that he reads and digests.  Lawd knows he needs the help so lets see if we can come up with some constructive ideas on how to address the budget deficit; crime; education; and all the other pressing issues needing his attention right now.

I know its hard under the circumstances, but please restrain yourselves from using this as an opportunity to start yet another PPM v UDP or Caymanian v Ex Pat charade and only post sensible ideas, suggestions and solutions.

Thanks in advance.

A few simple solutions that

A few simple solutions that will help the budget deficit:

1.  Legalise gambling;

2.  Introduce Casino(s);

3.  Introduce a national lottery to benefit needy causes (that's not politicians or religions);

4.  Allow bars, nightclubs and similar establishments to remain open after midnight on a Saturday night, just as they already do on a Friday night;

5.  Introduce Sunday trading;

6.  Stop paying all the CS health insurance and pension contributions and make them contributory in line with the private sector;

7.  Stop the import of so much produce from abroad.  Not only does it have to be sprayed with god knows what preservatives, etc. to keep it fresh, but by the time we eat it, it has little to no goodness left, but the retailers are crippling us with their unreasonable profit margins.  Even the homegrown organic produce sells for more than the stuff they import - this is plain wrong.  Instead, why not import some Bauxite from Jamaica and lets start growing our own.  Agriculture Dept this is one for you.

OK that was just a few thoughts off the top of my head in five mins - I'm sure there's plenty more I and others here can come up with given the time.

I encourage others to leave similar suggestions here.

1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 all make absolute economic sense.

3 and 7 just won't work because of issues with economies of scale.

Instead of fighting with PPM

Instead of fighting with PPM why not try working together and using ideas from both sides to fix all existing issues in the Cayman Islands. You are the leader even for those who did not vote, but the the fighting will not help our situation.

Try listening to who put you where you are today, your Cayman people.  Use the ideas to help you figure out the correct way to get Cayman back to where it should be.  Is all of the traveling necessary with today's technology you can communicate otherwise this will assist with cutting back on unnecessary spending.

Instead of companies hiring expats try insisting that they use the Caymanians who are out of work.  Remember we all make mistakes in our lives and criticizing others does not help.

You're so wrong. The PREMIER

You're so wrong. The PREMIER needs to travel. I wonder if you all PPM SUPPORTERS would rather the PREMIER do what the past Leader did. drink, play dominoes etc.

You all need your heads looked at. God is for us and he will take care of us.

Suggestions

1 - Please vet your ideas with your collegues before you put them forth to the public.  If you are doing that already, that is great but we don't think so.

2 - Please concentrate on fixing what we have that is "broke" before you add more stuff that is not sustainable.  We should concentrate on the basics first, then we can move on to bigger and fancier things like cruise docks, refineries, more PR and status grants.

3 - Please try to talk about the past PPM administration as little as possible.  Yea, we got it.  They weren't very good and spent a lot of money and put us in debt.  But lets move on to the future now and work on solutions and not blame.

4 - Please talk alot about healing and unification.  You can never say too much about these topics.  Perhaps in some of your future actions, you might remember to put words into action.  That would be good for the country.

5 - We know that you love Cayman.  We do too, but whether we are UDP or PPM, born here or somewhere else, we look to you for leadership.  Some of us didn't vote for you but we now depend on you for our future.  Please consider the image that you portray to the world.  Not all of us are blessed with the ability to speak like a great orator, and that's okay.  Leadership is not all about words, it is more about actions.  But, when you talk in public, it would be good if you considered the consequences by saying things that we can rally around and support.

6 - And lastly, please consider surrounding yourself not only with people from the same party but with people that have differing views.  You don't have to do what they say, but give them a chance to be heard by asking their opinions.  A great leader weighs all the options and then selects the one which is best for the country.  Don't discount the fact that others may have a better view on a particular subject.

If you can remember to do these six things, even if Cayman sinks further into debt or devistation, you will not be standing alone.  We, the People of Cayman, whether we voted for you or not, will be standing by you.

Thank you for serving the People and we wish you well as you consider these suggestions.

I know it's a long shot, but...

I know it's a long shot, but I'm leaving this notepad and pen here and hopefully, when we wake up, God will have written down what to do!

Gambling

Adding the environment that gambling inherently provides would only multiply the troubles the islands already experience.  The idea is to generate an improvement model that would benefit all caymanians and this prospect, I believe, would only forward the misdirection the Cayman Islands currently follow, governmentally.

I truly hope for an upward surge in a feeling of independant optimisim for the Islands, however, I do not read anything here that would indicate that.

There is an overwhelming presence of a downspiraling sentiment with no real hope of change that can only be provided over time and with a never before seen sense of support for your national government.

I hope that this trough can begin to peak sooner than later, for your people and for your future.

Best wishes, Cayman Islands.  Your appeal is near an end or at the most important of climbs.
