Removing Hon. McKeeva Bush from power

Can we have a serious discussion as to the options for removing the Honorable McKeeva Bush from his appointment as Premier.   What remedies are allowed in the law and the new constitution?   What can the UDP do internally?  I think many of us believe that there is now enough cause to take whatever steps are necessary (within the law) to do damage control before our country is further embarrased or sustains irreparable harm from this Premier.

Call New Elections. We don't

Call New Elections. We don't want to remove the Premier and leave his peppets in power. He'll still pull their strings. Besides, if they allow him to lead and domineer them, they are worse than he is. All of them need to go! New Elections I say. Give Alden a shot to restore some order to government.

Hopefully someone will pass

Hopefully someone will pass this thought onto Mike and Eugene.

Gentlemen....time for bold and positive action for the people and the country. You could be the two individuals that start the turn around for the Cayman Islands. You are the two who can effect real positive change. You could revolutionize the Government and become historical hero's. By blindly following Mr. Bush you will be part of bringing down a wonderful country. Fact, the country no longer supports Mr. Bush and JuJu. That means they will not support you if you stay with the UDP.

Forget party politics. Forget about yourselves. Cayman has grown out of the present party system. Cayman will not survive a "one man" government for 2 more years. Stop watching and waiting. Go speak with the opposition. Form a majority of MLA's and request that Mr. Bush and O'Connor resign. Then form a cabinet of true leaders and start making decisions that will save Cayman.

The Constitution states that

The Constitution states that a vote of 2/3 of the LA is needed to remove the Premier and Deputy Premier from office. While we are at it we need to get rid of the Speaker of the House as well!!! That's 10 people. This is going to be a pretty hard sell because we would need 4 people from the UDP party to join forces with PPM and Ezzard. There is no way that we would expect anyone to switch sides and give another party power. So PPM would have to take one for the Country and let the polls speak for themselves in 2013 but right now the major goal is to get rid of Mckeeva and Julianna because there is no way that we would want her to be the Premier either (uggghhhhh)!! We would have to rally strongly and loudly behind PPM & Ezzard to be able to sway 4 ppl within this group!!! Ellio Rolston Cline Cpt Eugene Mike Dwayne Mark Once done, who in heavens name of this bunch would we want to represent us as Premier and Deputy Premier bearing in mind current work load if a current minister is nominated. I would throw out Rolston and Mike which means that Ellio (ughhh) and Cline would have a strong case to become Ministers!!!! What a mess!!! If this is not the greatest case that we need to be more responsible voters I don't know what else is!!!!! What a bunch that we have to chose from--honestly!!!! 2013 voters PLEASE step it up!!!!

 I don’t understand why

I don’t understand why you would desire to create an issue in a time whenwe need a proper solution. Be a part of the solution not a problem maker. In these times we should put our political caps down and be unified in seeking a solution.  Don’t you think removing the leader of government would make a country look unstable? Yes!!!

Clearly there are some people who cannot think beyond where their skin ends! Life is about more than getting the other guy because when we think like that innocent people get hurt!We as a community have learnt this the hard way.

We need to be Unified more than ever now, not divided! An eye for an eye leaves the entire nation blind! We have bigger issues than wounded egos right now. Please go home and complain to someone who cares about your ego ….perhaps the mirror.

 The present MLA's are

The present MLA's are incapable of unification. There are good MLA's rt now but no one is standing up. Its not working.

Change allows for new leaders to step forward and truly lead. The country has numerous serious issues...but several serious issues in the last 3-4 days. Where is the leadership....1st class hotels and the Olympics. Where is the on island leadership?...haven't heard any messages from them.

I would think this should be unacceptable to most voters......

What does the law say? Can

What does the law say? Can the UDP have a no confidence vote and change the premier to someone else?

Yes, the other elected UDP

Yes, the other elected UDP Members and Ministers can change the premier, and that's the only option short of Governor dissolving the government under reserve powers (which is only possible under very extreme conditions of corruption and/or misgovernance). We'd have to be in an appallingly bad state to trigger that.

So in practice, if change in Premiership is to happen the UDP's MLA's are the people that will have to be convinced to do the deed. A tough sell, of course. Widespread activism by the electorate could help focus their minds and make them think twice about the foundations of their power, but legally speaking the power to appoint and change the Premier lies with the Assembly only.

That is the problem with

That is the problem with democracy, especially one with as skewed an electoral system as Cayman.  The people (or more accurately about 25% of the popluation) participated in an election and a small number of them chose the The Surgically Less Big Mac as their MLA and the UDP as the party with the majority.  Now that the people (or a sufficent fraction of them) have voted you simply have to wait until 2012 unless the UDP MLA's have a desire to challenge his leadership.

No responses?

The lack of any ideas or options to this topic shows that either 1) persons are afraid of McKeeva, 2) the CNS Forum section is not well visited, or 3) Caymanians are more interested in complaining about our country's leadership but when it comes to actually taking action they are unmotivated.

Which is it?  Our country's future hangs in the balance.

2/3 of the LA needs to vote against the current government to change it.

Wendy there are responses to

Wendy there are responses to this topic, why are you withholding it. Is Mckeeva threatening you too?

CNS: Good grief! 1) Wendy doesn't moderate the comments. She has enough to do writing all the news - not a small job. 2) Will you people stop asking if we are being threatened every time a comment doesn't appear immediately. We'll let you know if we get threats, which HAS NOT HAPPENED. In the meantime, have a little patience. 3) There is one other comment at this point (posted twice), so "responses" seems a little exaggerated.

Come on constitutional

Come on constitutional experts, tell us what is the next move. You can do this anonymously. We have enough of Big Mac and his small timid fries. We want some real men in the L.a., led by someone that is a real Caymanian not a West Bayer working for his family, friends, business associates and work permit holders.

Lets get this show on the road. .
