Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the owner (Paul) and the Dept of Agriculture, the little foal died.  Very sad.

And still we have packs of dogs roaming around all areas of Cayman.  There's a a couple of huge packs always wandering around the bypass right behind the Police Station in BT too - where the riding stables and other horse owners have young foals.  Its very worrying and the police seem to be aware but doing nothing about it.  These packs of dogs should be impounded and their owners fined/banned from keeping dogs.

Don't know.  But I did hear

Don't know.  But I did hear last week (on enquiring where the pretty foal had gone from near Buttonwood on Shedden Road) that this foal too got taken down and killed by dogs.  So sad.

We have a serious dog problem with roaming dogs all over the island.  We need dog catchers to take them to the pound try and deter people from letting their dogs roam the streets.

I say this not only because of the obvious danger to public and small animals.  I own several dogs.  I keep them secured in my yard and take them for regular walks.  My nights are made very noisy due to my neighbours dogs (who are left to roam the streets as they please) constantly coming in the yard and causing fights with my (secured) dogs.  Add to that the fact that they tip over and rip up the garbage all over the place, its most frustrating for a responsbile dog owner being kept awake and having to clean up after someone else's dogs.

 My sympathies about having

My sympathies about having to deal with your neighbour's dogs. Although I believe majority of dog owners on island treat their animals exponentially better than those anywhere else in the region, there are no stats to back up (or dismiss) this view. Some suggestions to your problem:
      a) Perhaps you could try a garbage can with handles that securely lock the top of the bin. Since using this on my own cans, even if they get knocked down, nothing has spilled out.
      b) Any chance of keeping your dogs inside?

There is a "dog catcher" that takes dogs off the street to the Government Animal Shelter. St. Matthew's University School of Veterinary Medicine has a website dedicated to the reunion of these "strays" with their owners, or to new, loving homes. I say "strays" because a large number of the dogs picked up are wearing collars which they couldn't have put on themselves :). I adopted a dog one year ago from the Gov't Shelter. There is a $95 fee... please take a look at the website & share it with others: http://smustudents.org/.  Click on "Lost Animals List."

Thank you for your suggestions.  I already bought those bins from Priced Right and they work good, wish I could force my neighbours to buy them too!

My dogs are yard dogs, I really don't want them in the house.  I already visit smustudents.org its a very good site.  My own dogs are rescued too - the mother was running around stray in my yard for a year before I managed to befriend and tame her, but by then she was pregnant so I kept the puppies I could no rehouse too!

Thank you for helping :)
