Report Dangerous Drivers

The recent post encouraging folks to report dangerous bus drivers inspired me to make a similar posting encouraging people to report dangerous drivers, drunk drivers (plenty of them about), drivers who use cellphones while driving and those who love to park and the sidewalks (few and far between I know) thus endangering pedestrians by forcing them to walk on the roadways.

Anyone who sees dangerous drivers please report them here, leaving details of the car they were driving (colour and model if known), their licence plate number and details of their "offense" (for want of a better description).

Lets all strive to make the roads of Cayman safer.

Yes, every summary of the

Yes, every summary of the rules for circles in Cayman magazines state that someone entering a roundabout and going straight ahead must indicate "right" on entry.  This is nonsense and dangerous.

If you are going straight ahead there is no need to indicate on entry, there is only a need to indicate left on exit (although many don't).

Look at Rule 186 of the Highway Code.

I pick my child from the Red

I pick my child from the Red Bay primary school every school day at around 3pm. I see quite a lot of traffic anomalies on the road in my daily trek to and from the school. I have seen the most idiotic one ever. The Barns' bus left just ahead of me from the school yard and as we travelled west on Shamrock road and onto the Grand Harbor round-a-bout, the driver came to a stop while on the round-a-bout to let a convoy of three other busses out from the South sound road entrance. Those busses, filled with children never came to a stop and proceeded right across the two lanes of the round-about and headed East. Now, I was behind the bus that stopped. However, the car to our left had to screech to a stop to allow this idiotic procedure to take place. This is not the first time I have seen people stop their car while on the round-about to allow other cars on. I understand this is a done thing in other Caribbean Islands but don't these people have to do a driver’s test before they are allowed to drive our precious children from school.

I think that the traffic law

I think that the traffic law should be updated to include and make it an offence to use cell phones while driving. Particularly in school zones. The penalty for driving and using a cell phone in a school zone should be a mandatory loss of driving privilege. I have seen drivers or people that think they can drive using a cell phone while trying to maneuver their vehicle around the Truth For Youth school’s parking lot after dropping their children off. In fact I have witnessed a policeman in a Police car trying to reverse his car in the same parking lot while on the cell phone. There was also this Coaster bus driver backing out of the lot onto the road while on the cell phone. This is utter madness. There are children everywhere. A few days ago I was driving pass the John Gray High School heading south just after 3pm doing 15mph and the driver of a white van was bearing down on me and half way across the middle of the road until he finally overtook me in front of the Catholic school. You guessed it, he was also on the cell phone.

What an Idiot? Unfortunately Cayman roads are filled with these types of vehicle operators (not drivers). However, we know that the Government will not do anything until an innocent child gets killed. Remember I said it here!

Whoah!  I think the RCIPS could be reading this.  They 've been in town ticketing the cars around Fort and Mary Street for the last 3 days.  Any action over at the Glasshouse?

What about ignorant people

What about ignorant people entering on and off the bypass at those condos by the dump.  It clearly states no turning in when coming from the north and also no turning south when coming out of the complex?

I even see a taxi driver there doing it at least twice.

Hopefully one of them gets slammed by a semi - maybe THHAT will know some sense into them.

On the same note, when headed into town on South Church Street - there is a clear NO RIGHT TURN sign by the museum - and yet every day I would say as many as 5% of cars take that turn.  If a policeman stood by the side of the museum and ticketed every one they would make a killing - this is a very dangerous moving violation!!!

Come on RCIP Farce - get these criminals and pad the government coffers for their ignorance.

Just for your information.

Just for your information. The "No Right Turn" sign is placed there and is meant to tell drivers that they are not allowed to turn into the one way end of Shedden Road. Not the Goring Avenue entrance, there is no reason why you are not allowed to make a right turn at the intersection you are referring to. Can you think of any practical reason why a driver would be?

Wrong. The "no right turn"

Wrong. The "no right turn" sign IS for Goring Avenue and the reason it is there is to stop traffic from building up south on Harbour Drive/South Church Street. I've personally sat right there many mornings while an idiot in front of me waited forever to turn there.

This was much more of a concern when the stop-light was at the corner of Shedden Road and Harbour Drive (many people missed that green light waiting for some selfish person to turn), but it is still an issue, especially in the heavy morning traffic congestion.

Yes, Shedden Road is a one way street from RBC to the waterfront and I can understand why you think the "no right turn" sign is for that road, but "no entry" signs are posted there instead of a "no right turn," maybe because placing the no right turn on such a sharp bend would make it hard to see.

Why do you think they recently painted those white lines on the south end of Goring Avenue so it is now obvious that cars should only feed onto that road coming southbound on Harbour Drive?

Don't believe me? Call the NRA, they will enlighten you.

 3 times I have reported

3 times I have reported parked cars blocking the crosswalk by Paradise on the waterfront after I nearly hit people trying to cross.  Are people so ignorant they don't realize you have a law that requires you not park within 30 (I believe) feet - of a crosswalk so drivers can get a clear view of pedestrians?  For the distance-handicapped, they even mark the roads so you know where not to park.

If I ever hit a pedestrian as a result of someone being parked to block the view, I can assure them they will be the subject of a lawsuit from the pedestrian and myself!!!

 Would you be interested in

Would you be interested in the 100+ pictures I have of people parking illegally outside the glass house?  (On the side walk mostly) over the last 3 months.  I am curious if the government would fine them or not, I tend to lean that gov. wouldn't find anyone if you gave them a picture of the offense.

Personally I have no

Personally I have no authority to do anything but I was rather hoping that enough people gave enough info (including registration numbers) here, this would surely act as sufficient evidence for the cops to be able do something.

I have a similar complaint with illegal parking around MacDonald Square and Fort Street/Mary Street around the Appleby building.  Not only do cars park illegally here but many also park on the sidewalks causing pedestrians to have to walk in the middle of the road - particularly dangerous if you are pushing a pram/elderly/carrying heavy shopping.

What gets me is the police pass by both the Glasshouse and Mary Street daily and don't seem to ticket them if they park on the pavements?
