Name and Shame
I am sick of the ignorance and selfishness of perfectly healthy people parking in handicap spaces. These are designed for people with a permanent or temporary handicap, not for "just running in to get one thing" or lazy people who cannot walk a few extra feet or are afraid to get wet.
It is even more amazing that frequently the offenders park in these spots when driving a logo'd company vehicle.
So I say it is time to name and shame them. Take a picture of offending company vehicles and post them here - or send them to the company owners. Maybe they will think twice if there is the possibility of action by their employers!

Name and Shame
I am so glad that someone else feels as I do on this issue. I have become disabled and have had a car-label for the last six months. My observations on some locations are:
1) The Hospital. This is probably where the need for spaces is greatest. There are 4 spaces, 3 near the main entrance and one by the dental clinic. Recently there has been some improvement in the monitoring of their usage but I am yet to see an offender be clamped, even though there is now a ‘golf cart’ that occasionally tours around with clamps aboard it. Security personnel spend most of their time in the shade by A & E and are rarely seen by the main entrance where most of the people and vehicles are. A police car was parked in one of the disabled spaces the other day.
There is a space by the dental clinic. My worst ever experience was when I had a dental appointment and had to park in Hospital Road. It took me 14 minutes to walk from my car to the clinic but that did include two rest stops.
2) Countryside. Never monitored. I was told by the site manager that they used to employ someone to keep violators out and he was so good at his job that they had to lay him off because people stopped parking in them and they were getting no income from the clamping. I noticed yesterday though that at Fosters there is now a sign reading, “Clamping resumed.” It was here that I was told by a female violator whom I challenged (politely) a few weeks ago, “If you wasn’t a cripple I’d beat your f****ng head in.”
3) A L Thompson North Sound Road. Six spaces usually all occupied by violators. I came across Mr Thompson in the store three weeks ago and he told me that he was aware of the problem and was looking into it but was unable to do anything about it at the moment.
4) Grand Harbour. The spaces near Hurleys are usually all available but they are a long way from the entrance. Disabled spaces should be on the road by the entrance. People park there anyway, even though there are double yellow lines and yet they cause no obstruction.
There are two spaces by The Brick House restaurant. One of them is usually occupied by a violator and if it is, then the other which is at right angles to it at a corner, is inaccessible as it is blocked.
5) Kirks Supermarket . Two spaces (there may be others). A couple of months ago there was a car that was being raffled, parked in one of them all day Saturday. When I challenged the rafflers and told them that any other space would be acceptable but not this one, I was ‘blanked’ and they refused to talk to me. I asked the manager to do something but he told me he was powerless.
The problem is that people who park wrongly in these spaces appear to feel no guilt whatsoever and usually become verbally aggressive.
