To mace or not to mace

I am a bit concerned that we are not legally allowed to protect ourselves from someone who wants to cause us harm. We are sitting ducks, easy targets. Why not sell mace? The CIG can even license if they want. Mace cannot kill a person but it can save you some time in order to get away from an attacker.  Mace only causes temporary blindness and will not cause lasting aftereffects. People will abuse things that are forbidden. Same goes with drugs and alcohol. Make it legal and sell if crime goes down. Times are changing and Cayman is not the quite, safe little island that it used to be. Our laws need to be updated to catch up with the times. Many women leave work at late hours, walk on the beach at night, live alone, or lately feel very uncomfortable doing anything on their own because of the recent spikes in crime.

Do we have to hire a personal guard to follow us at all times to make us feel comfortable? By being able to protect myself with mace, I would feel more confident and comfortable in my day to day life.

How much better would you feel to know that your daughter, wife, sister, girlfriend, cousin, mother, aunt, or best friend was left unharmed because she could defend herself from a dangerous situation?

What I want to do is get people’s opinions, suggestions, thoughts and ideas. Something HAS to be done. We need to make this an important topic of discussion. We have to bring this to Governments attention and not rest until something is done in our best interest.
