All three primary schools on Cayman Brac will re-open on Tuesday 6 January. Primary school teachers are asked to report to their respective schools on Monday for a pre-opening planning day. Cayman Brac High School and Little Cayman Education Services will re-open on Monday.

Swim team beats the frost

(CNS): The 26th Annual Youth Cup Swim Meet took place last weekend in Toronto, Canada, bringing together over 1000 of Canada's best young swimmers. A 15 member team left Grand Cayman on Wednesday, 3 December, to take them on and gained some valuable experience in the build up to CARIFTA 2009, while at the same time putting in some stellar performances and each setting at least one personal best time.

Risqué Rugby for charity

(CNS): The Cayman Rugby Football Union has released of the first ever Men’s and Women’s Rugby Calendar, which features 12 months of , according to the CRFU, “exciting and racy” photos of both the Cayman Women’s National Rugby team and men from the local Alex Alexander Rugby competition. The double-sided calendar will hit the shelves in time for Christmas, with sales proceeds going to both the Cayman Rugby Football Union and The Cayman Islands Cancer Society.

Veterans meet Olympians in local sailing tournament

(CNS): According to organizers the 2008 Laser National Championships have been described as the most successful championships the Cayman Islands Sailing Club (CICS) has hosted for years. “We have not seen such a large number of Laser competitors since the 1980’s when the Sailing Club was located on Seven Mile Beach, in the position now occupied by the Great House” said Andrew Moon Club Commodore.

Rain no match for Breeze

“Don’t rain on my parade …” is the song Breeze FM and Radio Cayman staff must have been singing in the final days before the Second Annual “Breeze Fusion 2-Mile Run/Walk”, which took place on Saturday, November 1. When Saturday came, it seemed Mother Nature was going to cooperate. As the 7:30am start time drew closer, participants were appearing thick and fast. Then the heavens opened and the rain came down.

Women sailors in spotlight

(CNS): Cayman’s women sailors made a respectable showing recently finishing 6th in the Budget Marine Women’s Caribbean Keelboat Championships held in St Maarten over the weekend of 1st/2nd November 2008. In an exciting weekend of racing with 12 teams from around the Caribbean and the USA participating, the local St. Maarten team claimed victory.

Young sailors face tough going

(CNS): Before anyone had even hear of Hurricane Paloma Cayman’s young sailors were enjoying some challenging ocean conditions during this year’s Scotiabank Cayman Islands Youth Sailing Championships which were held on 1 & 2 November at the Cayman Islands Sailing Club and proved to be an enjoyable event for both participants and spectators alike.

Turtle Tri build-up race

(CNS): On Sunday, 9 November, athletes will have the chance to compete in the final triathlon build-up race in preparation for the Cayman Islands Turtle Tri, scheduled for 23 November. Registration begins at 6:30 am on Governors Way opposite Public Beach, with a start time of 7:00 am. It's also a great opportuntiy to get your entries in for the Turtle Tri. Information about all Triathlon events may be obtained by calling 927-2714.

Esso Blazers stretch winning streak

(CNS): In the Cayman Islands Basketball Association (CIBS) Boy U-19 League, Esso Blazers continued its winning ways at the CIBA court on Saturday, when they defeated Silver Bullets 81-46. This latest win places Blazers at the top of the tables and seals their position as the only undefeated team in the CIBA’s U-19 Boys League. (Photos CIBA)
