I'm not sure if this poll is

I'm not sure if this poll is valid anymore considering what Government has said, but I strongly feel this port should go in Red Bay as the positive results are many-fold.  All this talk about it being a replenishment zone is total nonsense, I've been in there many times and there is VERY little wildlife, not this oasis of fish that people make it out to be.

My preference of location is

My preference of location is GT. On your second point what's the difference?  Most have to pay for a bus ride in town anyway as all the main stores, bars and eating places are miles out of town, as are the beaches and tourist attractions.
Perhaps therein lies the problem.  Its not just the lack of port facilities when they step off the ship, its the lack of tourist product.  What is there to tempt them to stay in the capital?  Have you seen how bored and lost the tourists look as they wander  vacantly round the capital asking where everything is?  Most are looking for shopping malls/stores and somewhere to eat/drink not just diamonds, watches, perfume and souvenirs.  Making GT into a thriving pedestrian shopping and dining centre, with adequate parking facilities, using meters if neccessary, could benefit us all.  It most definitely has an existing customer base with everyone who works in GT.  The proposed park was also a good thing I think.  However, I would prefer no busks and monuments -  I would rather see a simple, pleasant, traditional park with shaded green areas with benches and cabanas, perhaps a fountain or water feature or two, and lush gardens such as can be found at the Botanical Gardens.  Nothing extravagant or expensive, but something we can all use, visitor or not, for relaxation and leisure.

Parks, such as you described,

Parks, such as you described, end up rarely used in our tropical hot environment. Complete waste as is the upcoming Christian Heritage Park. It is crazy to take $50M worth of land and put grass and trees in it when you do not have an local population to use it. A silly tower in middle. Really hope the budget crisis catches that one.

The Chriatian heritage Park land should be put to good use and become a museum or a transportation centre for the the cruise tourist. It could make money not become an expensive and unused "park" which goes dead 18 hours a day.

Cruise Port

I have seen nothing that indicates what the cruise lines want as to location. Secondly if the new port were in the Red Bay area are we really expecting the passangers to pay for a bus ride to town?? Let's remember who the persons are that in the final analysis are paying for the facility and make it an enjoyable experiance for them.

You are correct...it should

You are correct...it should be a pleasant experience. I doubt that GT will be such an experience however. Traffic jams and 24,000 plus passengers crammed into a 3 acre site and completely blocking Harbour Drive. Fighting to get back to their ships.

Add to that that GT will actually close for 20-30 days per year due to weather and they still have to crawl into shore at Spotts on a tender, makes Red Bay a superior choice.

What most are missing is that the majority of cruise passengers, as much as 70%, immediately get on a bus and go on a tour out of GT. When you add to that the Chinese retail mall on the port we can only imagine the retailers downtown will feel that even more than actually paying for the shuttle from Red Bay directly to their stores.
