Do not sell the CIG Building,

Do not sell the CIG Building, because it was built by PPM, sell Boatswaine! Boatswaine is draining these Islands as it serves no purpose to the Cayman People.  We can't even get turtle meat anymore and we can't visit the place, because it has nothing to show us.Sell the unused pieces of lands on the corner of NorthWest Point, sell the Waste Management, the dump and collect the concessions fees from the Ritz Carlton and Dart. Downsize the Civil Service, Cut the EXCO Salaries, Charge taxes on the Real Estate Companies, collect an annual $50 head tax from every person over 18 years of age, stop the abuse of Cayman Airways, Collect Tax from anyone with salaries over $ 8,000, collect tax from home owners over $1mio, collect school fees for all public schools afterall we are NOT tax free anyhow. We do not need to sell the Gov't building, we need to consolidate the Gov't offices in one building and you will have your SUSTAINABLE saving plan for these Islands. After you sell the Building, then what's next to sell?

You don't want to pay taxes.

You don't want to pay taxes.  You don't want to cut the civil service.  You now don't want to sell assets.

What are you, a bunch of ostriches sticking your head in the sand?

We are not ostriches, its

We are not ostriches, its just the right thing to do, we oppose selling off government assets because Legislators were elected to think and we expect them to have the education and ability to draft financial projections that will create jobs and generate revenue. No good and financially sound government sells off the country's assets to pay staff. You generate revenue to pay staff. That's what educated CEO's do! Those that are lazy and not equipped to do same are a detriment to the country's assets.  Assets are to remain. Debts are to be disposed.

No, what we want is a

No, what we want is a government whose members jet around the world less at our expense and will have the intelligence to look at certain types of property taxes, such as those advocated by Timothy Ridley many moons ago! However, because Mr Ridley was suggesting what would be a tangible and sustainable income stream the goodly Premer rejected that suggestion .. I wonder why?  Incidentially, it appears that Mr Ridley was quite ready to pay his own share of property taxes but others who would so be affected made the decision that his was a bad idea.

Oh and by the way you bunch who will start demonising me, for the record, I hardly know Tim Ridley and I am a 6th generation Caymanian. So, I am not tooting his horn, rather I have the good sense to understand the merit in his suggestion.

I think that a sale of some

I think that a sale of some assets which are not money making or money saving assets should be considered. In particular Bosun Beach should be sold as this would save millions a year.

I disagree with selling the new Government building - particularly at a price which is much less than has been paid for it and a price which takes no account of the value of the land. If the government cannot come up with any sensible ideas or if it has promised its cronies money from these buildings then the government should at least ensure that any sale contract contains an option whereby a future government could buy the building back at say 10 years and 20 years for the price at which the building is now being sold. That way the cronies or whoever is going to get this building could get their profit from rent and their money back in a few years. That way the people of Cayman would also be assured that government assets will be available for future generations.

I agree with most of what you

I agree with most of what you said . However, no sensible astute investor is going to buy a building from anyone including government and not make a good profit. They are not a charity. They are businessmen.

We  do not deny that government needs funds urgently, but as intelligent people we can not accept the myth that l0 or 20 years from now the building could be bought back by tgovernment deceiving ourselves. It will be sold to the highest bidder by the new owners.

Here's what would happen. those investors are going to retaliate, lawyerup, and file a lawsuit in court against our government if they feel the price value of the land is considerably increased within that r 10 or 20 years period

The situation at hand is  that any investor with x amount of dollars now have the opportunity to purchase a government asset with land value that is not really being considered in the overall purchase price. The building is being sold, and he land value is not even being recognized in its value. That's what's so dangerous and troubling about this issue surrounding the sale.

It could boomerang back in he face of government

Don't you think that when the time comes to turn a profit on their investment that  the land value will be the first item of consideration for price increase based on  the increased value of the property over l0 to 20 years?

Property appreciates is value , not depreciate.
